Our Music
We are very proud of our long history of excellence in music programs and choirs. We are dedicated to music within our own church and within the greater Elgin ecumenical community. Among the outreach opportunities, the Chancel Choir joins many other churches in the area for a large Palm Sunday Festival Concert. The children of our church join with other Elgin area children for our annual summer music camp – one of the highlights of children’s outreach and mission program. It is a truly unique and meaningful experience for everyone involved in this magnificent project!
The Chancel Choir is a 25 voice choir that rehearses weekly on Wednesday nights at 7 pm. They sing each Sunday for our worship service during the program year. We perform traditional music of the “masters” along with new and contemporary music that speaks to the hearts of many in our worship services. In addition, the Chancel Choir performs larger seasonal works on occasion. The choir is comprised of adults from their 20’s to 80’s. We welcome new voices at any time to this fun-loving committed group of people!
The children of our church rehearse during a portion of the Sunday School hour and grace our worship with their music several times during the program year. On occasion, tone chimes are added to the children’s music. Besides regular anthems, they will perform a Christmas pageant complete with drama, costumes, and music on the Sunday before Christmas each year. All children preschool – high school get involved with this worship opportunity.
We are blessed to have a state-of-the art Zimmer tracker organ in our sanctuary that is used along with piano each Sunday to enhance our enthusiastic congregational singing. What an inspiration for us all!
